When I get really mentally and physically exhausted it is time for a rest and relax session. I get that way as a high school teacher and wrestling coach by February. We practice off season from 9/1-11/1. Then we go into regular season activity which lasts from 11/1-2/15 each year. High school wrestling is the most demanding sport easily at the high school level, especially for the coaching staff. We practice and have meets M-F weekly and then travel for 14 of the 16 Saturdays during the winter months. Four months of six days a week catches up with you and adding that on top of being a special education teacher just amplifies the mental and physical exhaustion by March 1.
I compete, battle, teach, coach, and fill my role as a business man, writer, husband and father also during this time. After 24 years of doing that I get pretty wore out. So my break from it is no afterschool activity at all for the March and April. I totally commit to my own time, family time and getting some rest and relaxation. A nap a few days a week and an occasional trip to the mountains does the trick for this old Coach and Teacher!
