🔤 Dictionary Day
This day celebrates the birthday of Noah Webster (October 16, 1758), best known for his influential American dictionary. Celebrate Dictionary Day on October 16th with a few wonderfully wild words. How many of these words below do you already know?
🌧️ Petrichor — the earthy smell after rain
🏔️ Alpenglow — the rosy glow on mountains near sunrise or sunset
🐢 Brumation — a reptile’s period of winter inactivity
🐦 Murmuration — a large flock of birds moving together in the sky

Happy 136th birthday to Yosemite National Park! Yosemite became a national park on October 1, 1890. To celebrate, become a virtual junior ranger at the national park! October 18–24 is National Friends of Libraries Week! Friends of the Library groups support their local libraries through fundraising, volunteering, programs, events, and more. Does your local library have a Friends group? Visit your library's website and search for “Friends of the Library,” or simply ask at the front desk. Many groups welcome new members and volunteers!

Did you know that September is Library Card Sign-up Month? It is! When was the last time you visited your local library? Libraries offer so much more than books from free programs and activities to resources for all ages! And let's not forget about all the free books! 😉 If you’re new to your local library, bring your ID and proof of address (a utility bill works) and head to your local branch today. I also recommend signing up for your library’s newsletter to hear about all of their free and fun events.

Fall is here, which means classmate birthday parties, soccer games, and lots of time on the go! 🗽 New York City
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting New York City with my family. We spent the week learning, exploring, and walking around the city. It was such a fun and educational trip.
Did you know that New York City is home to 12 National Park Service sites preserving more than 400 years of American history? While we were there, I even earned my Junior Ranger badge at Statue of Liberty National Monument! As someone who loves sharing the magic of our national parks through my books, it was especially inspiring to explore these historic places in person.
Did you know that you can get a library card at the New York Public Library for free? Yes, I got one! The New York Public Library is the second largest library in the United States behind the Library of Congress and it's a beautiful place to visit.
