🔤 Dictionary Day
This day celebrates the birthday of Noah Webster (October 16, 1758), best known for his influential American dictionary. Celebrate Dictionary Day on October 16th with a few wonderfully wild words. How many of these words below do you already know?
🌧️ Petrichor — the earthy smell after rain
🏔️ Alpenglow — the rosy glow on mountains near sunrise or sunset
🐢 Brumation — a reptile’s period of winter inactivity
🐦 Murmuration — a large flock of birds moving together in the sky
Alpenglow is my favorite of these four words. Emma really likes brumation. ;) Which of these four words is your favorite? Click here to explore more words!

📖 National Friends of Libraries Week
October 18–24 is National Friends of Libraries Week! Friends of the Library groups support their local libraries through fundraising, volunteering, programs, events, and more. Does your local library have a Friends group? Visit your library's website and search for “Friends of the Library,” or simply ask at the front desk. Many groups welcome new members and volunteers!
📚 Request them at your local bookstore and/or library
Thanks so much for reading my books and for all of your support. I am very grateful! Wishing you a cozy October filled with books, adventure, pumpkins, and a little magic.
Take care,
Kathy Cherry
Did you know that...
more U.S. presidents were born in October than in any other month?
Dean Joke...
How do you compliment a pumpkin in October? “You look gourd-geous."
