In a remarkable show of community spirit and generosity, the Calvert County's 11th annual Culinary Event, held on March 22 at The Hall at Huntingtown, has successfully raised over $100,000 for the Hospice of the Chesapeake. This significant fundraising milestone will directly contribute to the growth and enhancement of hospice and supportive care programs in Calvert County, offering crucial support to local patients and families navigating the challenges of illness and loss.
The event, renowned for its exquisite cuisine, local wine selections, and vibrant dancing, not only provided attendees with an evening of enjoyment but also an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. Faith Fitzgerald, the Director of Community Health at Hospice of the Chesapeake, highlighted the impact of the community's support by sharing insights into the Burnett Center for Hope & Healing. This initiative, reinvigorated with funds from the previous year's event, focuses on fostering hope and healing within the Calvert County community through various experiential learning and partnership opportunities.
"The Burnett Center's vision is serving community members who are at different points in living with their diseases," Fitzgerald explained, underscoring the center's vital role in the care continuum. This year's proceeds will further bolster the Burnett Center's programs, in addition to supporting hospice and palliative care services for Calvert County residents.
Becky Miller, President and CEO of Hospice of the Chesapeake, expressed her gratitude towards the event's participants for their role in driving positive change. "By joining us tonight, you are supporting those who are making change happen, those who are seeking new and innovative approaches, and those who are expanding on that original vision," Miller stated, emphasizing the collective effort in advancing the organization's mission.
The success of this year's Culinary Event was made possible by the generous contributions of numerous sponsors and event partners. The event recognized the support of its presenting sponsor, Floor Systems, along with other key sponsors such as Kelly Generator & Equipment, Inc., Maertens Fine Jewelers, Lee Funeral Homes, Peggy McKelly, Michael & Karen Sharpe, and Gail Siegel, O'Brien Realty. Furthermore, the collaborative efforts of The Hall at Huntingtown, Maryland Country Caterers, Event Pro, and NightLife were instrumental in creating an unforgettable evening for all attendees.
This annual Culinary Event stands as a testament to the Calvert County community's unwavering commitment to supporting hospice care and the holistic wellbeing of its residents. Through collective action and generosity, the community continues to ensure that individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses receive the care and support they need during their most challenging times.
