PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A significant disturbance at Calvert High School has drawn the attention of law enforcement and educational authorities following a confrontation among students on Wednesday morning.

At around 10:10 a.m., an altercation involving several students broke out on the school grounds over a dispute unrelated to school matters. The situation quickly escalated as more students became involved. School officials, including the administration and staff, along with a School Resource Officer (SRO) and school safety advocates, intervened swiftly to de-escalate the confrontation and secure the safety of students and staff.

The Calvert County Sheriff's Office, collaborating closely with Calvert High School's administration, has investigated the incident. Sheriff Cox emphasized the gravity with which the authorities are treating the situation. "We take any incident of this nature very seriously," Cox stated, highlighting the ongoing efforts to determine suitable charges for those involved in the disturbance.

Sheriff Cox also reassured the community of the commitment to student safety, expressing deep concern over the altercation. "As your Sheriff, my utmost priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of every student within our community," Cox said. He stressed the importance of a thorough investigation, implementing preventive measures to avoid future incidents, and supporting those affected.

In light of the incident, the sheriff's office has reminded parents and guardians about the critical role of community vigilance in maintaining a safe educational environment. They urge anyone with information or concerns to come forward and report to the School Resource Officer, school administration, or utilize the Be Safe Maryland Tip Line at 1-833-MD-B-SAFE (1-833-632-7233), or visit the tip line's website at https://schoolsafety.maryland.gov/Pages/Tipline.aspx.

The incident at Calvert High School serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing school communities in ensuring a safe and conducive learning atmosphere. It underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, educational authorities, students, and the wider community in fostering a secure environment for young learners. As the investigation continues, the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and Calvert High School administration are determined to address the incident comprehensively and prevent such occurrences in the future.

The commitment to student safety and well-being remains paramount, with authorities and school officials working diligently to maintain peace and order within educational institutions. The community's cooperation and vigilance play a crucial role in achieving this goal, as echoed by Sheriff Cox's call for support and assistance in keeping schools a safe haven for learning and growth.
