SELINSGROVE, Pa. – In an impressive showcase of skill and strategy, the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team clinched an 18-6 victory against Susquehanna University on Tuesday night. This win marks the Seahawks' second consecutive triumph, bringing their season record to 2-2, while Susquehanna drops to 1-2.

The game kicked off with St. Mary's College quickly gaining momentum as senior attacker Bella Dunigan and junior captain Colin Horton netted early goals, setting the pace for the match. Despite Susquehanna's initial comeback, leading 3-2 partway through the first quarter, the Seahawks displayed resilience. A collaborative effort between Dunigan and Horton tied the game, showcasing the effective partnership that would define the match.

As the game progressed, Susquehanna momentarily gained a 6-4 advantage. However, St. Mary's responded fiercely, closing the first half with a 7-6 lead. The true turning point came in the second half, with St. Mary's unleashing a relentless 14-0 run, effectively shutting down Susquehanna's offense. The Seahawks' defense, bolstered by newcomer Allie Greeley's six saves, played a pivotal role in halting the River Hawks' efforts, limiting them to just seven shots in the latter half.

Statistical analysis from the match underscores St. Mary's dominance, with a 37-17 shot margin and a 23-17 lead in ground balls. Junior midfielder Madison Laine stood out, securing four loose balls—a personal best. Despite a closer contest in draw controls, where Susquehanna edged St. Mary's 15-12, the Seahawks' defense and strategic play ultimately led to their substantial win.

Individual performances were noteworthy, with Horton leading the charge with six goals, a career-high, alongside two caused turnovers. Dunigan matched her career-high with five goals, adding two assists to her impressive performance. Contributions also came from sophomore attacker Katelin Scala and junior attacker Hailey Betch, both adding significantly to the team's success.

Susquehanna's efforts were led by Allie Kutler, who contributed three goals and two assists, and Aerin O'Brien, who denied 11 shots from St. Mary's.

Looking ahead, St. Mary's is set to face No. 25 Messiah on March 2 in Grantham, Pa., aiming to build on their momentum. This upcoming match promises to be a challenging encounter as the Seahawks seek to ascend in the rankings and continue their winning streak.

The Seahawks' victory over Susquehanna not only showcases the depth of talent within the team but also sets a high benchmark for their performance in the upcoming games. As they prepare to face Messiah, the team's cohesion, strategic execution, and individual skill will be crucial factors in maintaining their winning form.
