LEONARDTOWN, MD — A motorcycle valued at approximately $38,000 was discovered burned on Parson's Mill Road in Leonardtown, St. Mary's County, Maryland, authorities reported. The charred remains of the vehicle were found by a passer-by on a secluded section of a private road owned by local resident Liam Stauffer. The incident, which occurred without any reported injuries, is currently under investigation by state authorities.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office believes the fire took place on August 17, 2024, but the precise timing and causes remain uncertain as investigations continue. No firefighters were called to the scene, as the fire had already been extinguished by the time it was discovered. The motorcycle did not trigger any alarms, nor were any protective systems such as smoke detectors or sprinklers in place, as it occurred in a remote outdoor location.
Officials have not yet pinpointed where the fire started or the specific cause, leaving local residents and the property owner seeking answers about the sudden destruction of valuable property. The State Fire Marshal's Southern Regional Office is actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation.
The authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the State Fire Marshal's Office at 410-414-3611 to assist with the ongoing investigation.
