The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is investigating the armed robbery of a business in Hopland late Friday night.
In a press release, the MCSO reported that deputies responded to the 13600 block of Mountain House Road in Hopland around 10:50 p.m. June 14 when a "panic alarm notification" was activated at Hopland Food and Gas.
While responding to the business, the deputies were told by dispatchers that "a robbery just occurred at the location and the suspect was armed with a firearm."
Once at the business, MCSO deputies, assisted by California Highway Patrol officers, "began an investigation into the incident along with canvasing the area for the suspect. During the investigation, deputies learned a male subject arrived at the location dressed in all black with a cover over his face. The subject brandished a semi-automatic pistol toward the employee at the location and demanded money. The subject then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency." The employee he interacted with was not injured.
The MCSO reports that deputies did not locate the suspect, who is "considered armed and dangerous," despite searching the area "for an extended period of time."
This case is being actively investigated, and "anyone with information that could assist with this investigation is urged to contact the MCSO Dispatch Center at 707-463-4086, or the non-emergency anonymous tip-line at 707-234-2100."
