Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) commenced its graduation ceremonies on May 28, with St. Charles High School leading the celebrations. The week-long series of events is set to continue through May 31, honoring graduates from various high schools in the district. The ceremonies are being held at the Regency Furniture Stadium.
St. Charles High School graduates, adorned in Kelly-green robes, filled the stadium as they celebrated their achievements. Valedictorian Miracle Washington and salutatorian Chloe Del Rosario led the commencement, delivering inspiring speeches to their peers.
Chloe Del Rosario, in her salutatory address, encouraged her classmates to embrace their futures with confidence. "Know that life has a plan for you," she said. "It's time to say 'Hello,' to your future. Our lives are in no one else's hands but our own."
Miracle Washington, in her valedictory speech, candidly shared her discomfort with public speaking and her journey through high school. "Public speaking is not my thing," she admitted. Washington explained that she often kept to herself, focusing on her academics and maintaining her top-class rank. She highlighted the common struggle of imposter syndrome, urging her classmates to recognize their accomplishments.
"You may look at the people around you and see their qualifications and talents and all that you don't think you have," Washington said. "But despite everything, you made it. We're all here because we've earned this. Never forget that."
The St. Charles High School Class of 2024, consisting of 368 members, collectively earned nearly $30 million in scholarship offers, showcasing their academic and extracurricular achievements.
The next graduation ceremony will feature Thomas Stone High School, set to take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28. CCPS is providing a livestream of all graduation ceremonies on its official website, Vimeo, and YouTube channels. For more information, visit CCPS Graduation 2024.
