DIY Garden Tool Organizer: Repurposed Mailbox

Welcome to the garden era, the era where I decide I really want to fulfill my gardening dreams. These dreams started when we bought our forever home on 18 acres three years ago.
This is the year we finally make it happen though!
If you were around when we were working full force on our curb appeal projects, you know we recently replaced our mailbox and post with a DIY custom mailbox.
And if you follow us on social media you know that it got hit by a car literally one month later... yep it happens like that sometimes.
The post was demolished and the mailbox itself was in pretty bad shape. We built a new identical post and attached a new mailbox (lucky we had the easy tutorial to follow again).
So while our mailbox problems were addressed (see what I did there) it still left us with a dented mailbox that was only a month old. So I decided to repurpose it into a super cute DIY garden tool organizer!

While we are on the subject of repurposing things, I found 15 more things you could repurpose and use in the garden as tool storage.
1. Use old wooden pallets to create a vertical garden tool rack.
2. Repurpose an old ladder by hanging tools on its rungs.
3. Use PVC pipes to create a custom tool holder for smaller garden tools.
4. Repurpose an old filing cabinet or dresser drawers for tool storage.

How to Make DIY Garden Tool Storage
Garden Tool Organizer Supplies:
Our garden is officially in full swing, we still have a lot of projects until it's complete, but we have made a ton of progress.
So far Adam has cleared the garden area and added fencing around it. We still need to build and install doors to keep the deer out though.
Next, we built these super simple wooden planter boxes and added our seeds and plants.
One thing our garden was desperately missing though was some garden tool storage. I needed somewhere dry and close to the actual garden to keep our gardening tools.
So Adam came up with the brilliant idea to use our dented mailbox! It is large enough for our smaller gardening tools and adds a fun whimsical factor to the garden.
Plus it was super easy to create!
Installing Garden Tool Storage
We started by digging a spot for the 4x4 post, we dug about 2' deep.
Next we placed the post into the dirt and leveled it. For our mailbox we used concrete to keep the post in place but for the garden we decided refilling the hole with dirt would do the trick.
While Adam worked on the post I repainted the mailbox with this chalky pale pink paint. I applied two coats total.
Next, I added a little gold Rub n Buff to the mailbox flag and front pull.
After the mailbox was dry I attached it to the post with screws. I also added some vinyl to the side that says, " The Garden." Was this necessary? No but it's cute, don't you think?
I also planted some wildflower seeds around the bottom of the mailbox to make this garden storage area extra pretty. Eventually I will collect some large rocks from around the property and make a little border around it.

This repurposed mailbox is the perfect size for all our gardening tools and I love how convenient they are to grab and go.
Plus this is definitely the cutest way to store garden tools that I have ever seen. The best part is this project didn't cost us even a single dollar.
