WALDORF, MD — In a significant move for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, the team has announced the return of right-handed pitcher Ian Kahaloa and catcher Isaias Quiroz for the 2024 season. Both players, integral to the team's performance last year, are gearing up for their second season with the Blue Crabs, bringing experience and skill back to the roster.
Ian Kahaloa, hailing from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, emerged as the Blue Crabs' top starting pitcher in 2023, leading the team in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Selected in the 5th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, Kahaloa demonstrated his prowess on the mound last season by securing double-digit wins and amassing 143 strikeouts over 151.1 innings pitched. His return is highly anticipated, as the team looks to capitalize on his effective pitching and leadership on the field.
Joining Kahaloa in the 2024 lineup is catcher Isaias Quiroz, a vital mid-season addition to the Blue Crabs last year. Despite missing the early part of the season, Quiroz quickly made his presence felt by tying for the team lead in home runs with 17. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 20th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, the Bergenfield, New Jersey native took over the everyday catching duties, demonstrating both his defensive capabilities and power at the plate. Quiroz's return is expected to bolster the team's lineup and provide stability behind the plate.
The re-signing of Kahaloa and Quiroz underscores the Blue Crabs' commitment to building a competitive team for the 2024 season. With these two players having proven their value last season, their continued presence on the roster is poised to contribute significantly to the team's success. As the Blue Crabs gear up for the upcoming season, the return of these familiar faces is a promising sign of the team's ambitions and potential for achievement in the competitive landscape of baseball.
