For the last couple months, Nic and I have been gathering parts to build out our first dirt jumper bikes.
Nic got me a Commencal Absolut frame for Christmas, and we've been slowly researching and purchasing pieces to help complete the bike. It's been a fun journey. Plus, it boosted the confidence in my bike skills as I looked back and realized that I fully built my own bike.
HOW COOL IS THAT!
To go along with the bike build, Nic and I wanted to share the experience via media... Last week, Nic starred in a vlog where he put his skills to the test, and not everything went smooth.
However, it was nice because we had it pretty dialed when we went to go build my bike. Then, Nic could also create a Dream-Build-esque video and coach me from behind the lens. While this 2:00 video doesn't show all the hard parts of the day-long built, it was entertaining to romanticize and enjoy the processes of both building a bike and creating a rad film piece.
All in all, the bike cost more than stock, but it was worth it to create a completely custom bike. For me, it wasn't really about just buying and having a dirt jumper, it was about having something I could proudly called my own.
Something to do with my partner.
Something that would let me slow down and think about the bike. To learn about the bike.
And tune into the exact relationship I see myself having with the sport.
And that sounds like a lot to come from a silly little dirt jumper bike build video, but it truly helped me grow as a rider, a creator, and a learner.
