Victim's body recovered in swimming area approximately 1 hour after he went missing.
Emergency Personnel were dispatched to a missing swimmer at Huntsville State Park just before 10 am Sunday morning. Rescue teams from the Huntsville and New Waverly Fire Departments responded along with EMS and Law Enforcement. The crew on duty at New Waverly Station 75 responded with their rescue boat and deployed a rescue swimmer into the water upon their arrival.
A second crew from the New Waverly Station deployed with the NWFD's lake rescue boat, equipped with sonar. They began an initial search and marked the victim's last known location.
Additional personnel arrived on scene from the Huntsville FD and the Walker County dive team. Dive team members from the North Montgomery County also responded to aid in the search. Shortly after beginning their search, the victim was located in the water and his body was recovered.
The investigation into this tragic event will be led by Texas Parks and Wildlife. In 2021, Texas Game Wardens reported 7 drownings and 2 boating fatalities on Texas waterways. Texans are reminded to always wear a life jacket and to never mix alcohol with boating or swimming.
