Another day passed on my wife's Covid isolation and I had made it to Day 6 — yippee! On this day, I decided that we should take a midday excursion. As mentioned in my previous blog post for the excursion to Lengkok Bahru, it could be quite fun to see it as if it were a role-playing game. In the case of the excursion on Day 6, the main quests were to get the little one out of the house and to buy lunch. Missus added in some side quests in the form of a list of items that we needed to get.
The planning of the quest again was around wherever there would be a playground for the little one to run around and expend her energy. It also had to be a place where we could get lunch as well as buy the things on missus' list. I settled on Clementi Avenue 2 which we were quite familiar with in terms of driving by it frequently. The neighbourhood contained a series of shophouses with eateries and supermarkets — fulfilling requirements for lunch and buying a short list of things.
A check on Google Maps found that the primary condition of having a playground was also met. The playground was marked on Google Maps to be next to block 557. So off I went with the little one on our mini adventure. We found the playground (see below) quite easily and it was quite a unique one by a manufacturer (Buglo from Poland) I haven't come across before. We also sighted another playground in the vicinity which we would save for later.
It looked like something for really young children two-three years old. The slide looked really tame with a very gentle incline. However, there was also a set of two swings which the little one made a beeline for.
My feet can barely touch the ground…
There was also a nice set of interactive panels one of which was a xylophone of sorts and the other a electronic piano which you had to charge up by cranking up a wheel. I'm not sure how much you were supposed crank it but we never managed to get more than a few seconds of the piano working.
Little one playing at the xylophone.Little one winding up the wheel to get a few seconds of the piano working…
Lastly, there is also a trampoline-like installation (see below) for little tykes to bounce on. Never failed to get our little one's interests. I thought this playground was overall quite a good one with enough good features to keep preschool children engaged.
Hoppity hop, hop, hop….
After exhausting the playability of this playground we checked out the other one we sighted earlier on when we first arrived. This playground (see pictures below) looked a lot more weathered and than the earlier one (which actually looked quite new; maybe installed within the last three years). The manufacturer was Landscape Structures.
A tube slide which was still wet from an earlier rain…A green open slide which got quite hot in the midday sun The steps were interesting. They were designed to look like plastic crates stacked together.
It was really hot when we got there so little one was as in no mood to play. Luckily, there was a little pavilion in the shape of a house with cafe booth seats for us to cool our heels (photos below).
Waiter, you missed this spot…Thanks for cleaning up. I am ready for to order…
The cafe booth seats were great to hide away from the heat and great for little one's to role play. A nicely designed playground. Thumbs up. We tried to go up to play the slide but the surface was too hot. So I played the human bobsled to slide down for the one and only time. Might be better to come in the early evening…
With the quest to bring the little one for some outdoor fun completed, it's off to the check off our other quests: getting lunch and buying some stuff. For lunch, we headed to A-Poh Kitchen which was a stone's throw from the second playground. This is a halal restaurant serving Chinese stir fried (tze char) dishes. To get our other stuff done, there are two super markets (NTUC and Sheng Siong). There is also a well stocked hardware store, Sun Hee, for your DIY needs.
Such "quests" out of the house makes the time pass more easily. Was quite glad to do them even if the weather didn't make it that comfortable. So that's it for another edition of this blog. Till next time, stay healthy and safe everyone.
