LOWER LAKE — Roseland University Prep senior guard Lindsey Arellano scored 20 of her team-high 30 points during a 28-point third quarter as the Knights, who scored just one point in the second quarter, rallied to beat the Lower Lake Trojans 54-41 in North Central League I varsity girls basketball action Monday night in Lower Lake.

"She kept going further and further out to shoot the ball," Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said of Arellano. "Some of her 3-pointers were from 10 or 12 feet behind the 3-point line."

Arellano finished with six 3-pointers as Roseland University Prep (2-5) won only its second league game. Lower Lake fell to 2-4 in league and 4-10 overall.

"It was an ugly, ugly game," Tubbs said of the 20-plus turnovers committed by the Trojans, most of them unforced.

"Twelve to 13 turnovers is our goal for a game, but we had 13 in the first half even though we were ahead at halftime," Tubbs said.

Lower Lake took a 19-12 lead into halftime only to watch Arellano and the Knights go off in the third quarter as they opened up a 40-30 lead.

Kayleigh Mock and Margo Cordova had 12 points apiece to lead the Trojans while Terilyn Jo Jermany, back in the lineup after missing time because of COVID-19, added eight points, nine rebounds and four steals.

"It was nice to have her back out there," Tubbs said of Jermany.

Lower Lake's coach attributed his team's high turnover total to the lack of practice time because of COVID-19 layoffs earlier this month.

"It's hard to keep anything consistent when you can't practice," Tubbs said.

The Trojans are home again Tuesday night to play Kelseyville at 5:30 p.m. The varsity boys follow at 7 p.m. There are no junior varsity games.

In Monday's JV game, Lower Lake beat RUP 30-21 as Serenity McCoy led the way with 11 points. Ayla Ales, Jenna Johnston and Aliana Barnes added five points apiece.

In other girls action Tuesday:

Kelseyville 58, St. Helena 15

At Kelseyville, the Kelseyville Knights are finally in the win column after routing the St. Helena Saints in NCL I action.

Larue Furlani scored 23 points and Emily Sandoval added 12 as the Knights improved to 1-4 in the league standings and 1-11 overall. St. Helena fell to 0-7 in league play.

Lily Wiser and Makayla Meyer had eight points each for the Knights, who hit the road Tuesday night to play Lower Lake at 5:30 p.m. in varsity-only action. The varsity boys follow at 7 p.m.

Middletown 37, Clear Lake 17

At Lakeport, the Middletown Mustangs handled the Clear Lake Cardinals in JV girls action behind 17 points from Abby Tacla and 10 from Bella Santiago. A varsity girls game between the two schools at Middletown was postponed because of COVID-19.
