Hello February!

Greetings from Kathy Cherry Books!

Happy February, reader!

📱 Free Children's E-Books on 2/12
Who loves free books?!? On February 12th, almost 200 children's e-books will be available for FREE! You’ll find a great selection of picture, chapter, and middle grade books. Best of all, Bison Blog will be part of this exciting group! You don't have to have a kindle to download the books. You can download them as long as you have a smart phone or tablet. Mark your calendars for this one day event. Click here to get the free e-books on 2/12!

On a side note, happy birthday to Author Judy Blume on February 12th as well!

🏛️ Black History Month
February celebrates Black History Month. The National Park Service helps preserve and share important stories of African American history through memorials to historic schools, homes, and communities throughout the country. This month is a reminder that our national parks protect not just land, but the stories of people who shape our world.
  • Watch this short, but powerful video created by the National Park Service. The film, "Twenty & Odd," explores the legacy of more than 400 years of the African American experience. The narrative for this film is Maya Angelou’s amazing piece, “Still I Rise.”
  • Click here to view a large number of national park sites to learn more about African American history and plan a visit.
  • Click here for some great educational resources from the National Park Service to assist teachers with activities and plans.
♥️ Library Lover's Day
Happy Library Lovers' Day on February 14th! This day celebrates libraries across the globe and all the wonderful books inside them. Did you know that the world’s first library was formed in the Babylonian town of Nippur in 3 millennium BCE?

To celebrate this unique day, visit your local library and enjoy all it offers each community. We have 2.8 million libraries worldwide to visit! Perhaps a new bucket list? You can also celebrate by visiting a local little free library as well.

Did you know that...

Buffalo Soldiers served as the first rangers for the country's new national parks, long before the creation of the National Park Service.

Hello January 2026!

Greetings from Kathy Cherry Books!

Happy January and Happy New Year, reader!

▶️ Kids Ask Authors Answers Feature
Exciting news! 2026 started off with a super fun appearance all about Polar Post hosted by two amazing authors, co-hosts of Kids Ask Authors Answer. I had the great opportunity to answer a number of questions from children and even participated in a rapid fire quiz! I had a blast! Click here to watch this super fun episode. Please give it a watch and let me know your favorite question submitted by a kid.

In addition to the interview, you can find a number of goodies related to Polar Post on their website such as activities, lesson plans, and the read aloud. In particular, I love the secret treasure map hunt activity. Enjoy a cute video example of it here.

Kids Ask Authors Answer is a super fun and interactive YouTube series where real kids get to ask real authors their most curious questions about children’s books! Each episode features a new children's book read aloud followed by kid-submitted questions that the author answers on camera with no scripts, no prep, just genuine reactions and fun. Click this link for more information and resources on their website. Click this link to view all the awesome videos!

🏛️ Martin Luther King, Jr, Day
January 19th celebrates the life of Marin Luther King, Jr. this year. This past summer, I had the opportunity to see his National Memorial in person in Washington D.C. It was breathtaking! This memorial sits on the banks of the Tidal Basin and is carved out of a 30-foot piece of granite called "Stone of Hope". Below please find one of our photos from the trip of it.

You can click here to read more about his legacy and information on this memorial. In particular, I recommend the section called "Words that Inspire." Take a moment to read his inspirational words and the inscriptions on the memorial to honor this day. Visiting this memorial filled me with gratitude and hope which is something I hope all of us can carry into this new year.

💬 National Thesaurus Day
Happy National Thesaurus Day on January 18th! This day honors Peter Mark Roget, the author of Roget’s Thesaurus, who was born on this day in 1779. He published the first thesaurus in 1852.

To celebrate this unique day, expand your vocabulary and search the thesaurus for a different word. I just searched the word "fun" in the thesaurus and found "amusing, entertaining, funny, happy, and welcome" as a few options.

📚 My Books
Thanks so much for reading my book series and supporting me. I am really grateful! Wishing you a January filled with wonder, books, adventure, love, and a little magic.

Take care,
Kathy Cherry
