St. Mary's County Deputies Respond to Gunfire, Seek Information

By David M. Higgins II, Publisher/Editor on August 26, 2024

On the night of August 22, 2024, residents of Lexington Park were startled by a barrage of gunfire, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement. According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the 46000 block of Columbus Drive around 9:21 p.m. following reports of multiple gunshots.

The scene, filled with chaos shortly after the incident, saw several individuals fleeing the area. Although the gunfire resulted in damage to multiple residences and vehicles, there were no physical injuries reported. Investigators at the scene collected numerous shell casings, indicating the severity of the incident.

The Criminal Investigations Division of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation. They are urging anyone with information, whether they witnessed the event or have any knowledge that could lead to identifying the perpetrators, to come forward.

Detective Warren Forinash is leading the investigative efforts and can be contacted via email at Warren.Forinash@stmaryscountymd.gov or by phone at 301-475-4200, extension 8072. In an effort to gather more information, the sheriff's office is also encouraging anonymous tips through Crime Solvers.

Residents can contact Crime Solvers 24/7 at 301-475-3333 or text their tips to 274637 with the message "Tip239" followed by their information. It is important to note that the text code, "Tip239," is case-sensitive and must be entered exactly as shown. Tipsters can engage in a secure conversation without revealing their identity and might be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest.

This incident has heightened concerns about safety among the local community, and authorities are committed to apprehending those responsible to prevent further violence.
