ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced an extension for submissions to the 2024 Maryland Natural Resource Photo Contest. Photographers now have until 5 p.m. on August 26 to submit their entries, competing for cash prizes, state park passes, and a chance to be featured in DNR's 2025 nature calendar.
The contest, segmented by the four seasons—winter, spring, summer, and fall—awards first, second, and third place in each category. From these, a grand prize winner is selected. The grand prize for this year's contest has been increased to $700, with each seasonal first place winner receiving $100. All first-place winners also receive a one-year Maryland State Park and Trail Passport.
A unique aspect of the competition is the "Fan Favorite," chosen through popular vote on Facebook. The photo garnering the most likes will not only be featured in the calendar but also earn free calendars and a State Park Passport for the photographer.
Participants are required to submit their photos online through the DNR website and pay an entry fee of $10 for up to three photos, with each additional photo costing $3. The winners are scheduled to be announced in early fall, and all winning entries will be published in the 2025 calendar, with photographers receiving complimentary copies.
This contest not only highlights the beauty of Maryland's natural landscapes through the lens of its residents and visitors but also promotes engagement with the state's parks and recreational activities
