Daily writing prompt
Write about a random act of kindness you've done for someone.
I've often wondered if these "random acts of kindness" that often end up on some social media platform are true or if they're staged to create and make a point or even worse to attract and get "clicks and likes?" Likely a bit of both if the truth were to come out.
But, "random acts of kindness" do happen and ultimately for society that's a good thing.
Sadly, I've never had someone in front of me at a drive-thru window pay for my order. Perhaps that old saying "timing is everything in life" holds more water than expected.
But, getting back to the prompt, there was one time that I remember when we lived in a small village(where we raised our family). This would have happened in the range of twenty years ago. It was close to Christmas, maybe just a few days before. It was in the evening and I had gone to the local grocery store to get a few things.
While I was in the checkout line, there was a young gal(late teens) obviously trying to pay for diapers and a small bit of food. She didn't have enough to cover what she wanted to get and was doing the "what can I get for the money I have" shuffle.
Not, to make the story any longer, but I said just add everything she had to my stuff. I don't remember much of the rest of the interaction other than feeling upset(not a mad upset) but upset that in a country full of riches and wealth, a young mom has to pick and choose to, either buy diapers and food for her child - so close to Christmas.
Did it feel good to help her out? Sure it did. And all these years later it still feels good. Perhaps that one night, just before Christmas many years ago was one of those "timing in life is everything" moments for both of us.
