In a recent operation by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, a loaded automatic firearm was seized and a 20-year-old suspect arrested in Lexington Park, Maryland. The raid was part of an intensified crackdown on weapons violations in the area.
The operation unfolded early Saturday when deputies executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence on the 46000 block of Columbus Drive. The target of the raid was Kyreek Montrel Adams, who was suspected of multiple weapons-related offenses.
Armed with a warrant, members of the Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Emergency Services Team conducted the search, which led to the discovery of a Glock 9mm handgun. The weapon was equipped with a "switch" conversion device, a mechanism that illegally modifies a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic weapon.
Adams, who faces several charges stemming from the raid, was arrested at the scene. His charges include possession of a regulated firearm after a previous conviction of a disqualifying crime, illegal possession of a firearm under the age of 21, and possession of a machine gun, among others.
Following the arrest, Adams was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown. He is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
This incident underscores ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address and deter serious firearm offenses in St. Mary's County. The sheriff's office has not provided further details on the investigation, citing the ongoing nature of the probe.
