Developed nearly 20 years ago, Odylique's 100% natural Gentle Herb Shampoo is the first and only shampoo to achieve Soil Association approval. To mark its 20th anniversary, we put it's new and improved organic formulation for 2024 to the test
Since launching more than 20 years ago, Odylique's range of 100% Soil Association certified natural and organic skincare has become a firm favourite among consumers suffering with skin concerns, such as rosacea and eczema.
And this year marks the 20th anniversary of the brand's iconic original Gentle Herb Shampoo, which is the first of its kind to be certified organic by the Soil Association.
Now with added prebiotics, it's been hailed as the go-to natural shampoo for anyone with a sensitive scalp.
Tried and tested: Odylique Prebiotic Gentle Herb Shampoo
Having heard so many good things, naturally, we were keen to give Odylique's new and improved Gentle Herb Shampoo a shot.
We've tried and tested lots of natural shampoos over the years and have always found them either too oily or just not up to the job.
Lots of great clean skincare brands use essential oils in place of parfum which, in theory, is great - but not necessarily if you have oily hair.
Meanwhile, the omission of the surfactant and potential irritant sodium lauryl sulfate in other formulations generally means little lather and lacklustre hair.
But Odylique's Gentle Herb Shampoo is different.
This enhanced formula is boosted with the scalp-soothing and conditioning benefits of prebiotic chicory extract.
Working on the scalp microbiome to restore the skin barrier but also improve hair follicle health, this shampoo is ideal for irritated scalps.
It also has a conditioning effect which leaves hair soft and shining, with natural vitality.
This gentle, nourishing formula is fortified with:
- Prebiotic chicory extract
- Pure aloe vera, rich in essential vitamins and amino acids
- Nettle and horsetail – rich in strengthening silica
Sulphate-free, silicone-free and all natural, this shampoo gently and effectively cleanses without disrupting the scalp's natural sebum or acid balance.
We agree that it does everything it claims in the description.
Good to know:
- Certified 100% natural, 62% organic shampoo
- Free from wheat, dairy, soy, common allergen nut oils
- pH neutral shampoo - 5.5 - pH balanced to that of the skin
- Vegan & Cruelty-free – tested only on human volunteers
- No parfum, sulfates, silicon or petrochemicals
- Packaged in a locally made recycled, recyclable bottle.
The shampoo has become one of Odylique's bestsellers and, although I don't have a dry or irritated scalp, it made my hair look, feel and smell great.
Despite being made with avocado, sunflower and jojoba oils, with an element of coconut, it even helped keep my oily roots at bay.
My hair felt squeaky clean, with a subtle herby scent.
