LEONARDTOWN, MD — In a recent business meeting, the Commissioners of St. Mary's County (CSMC) recognized several youth sports teams for their achievements and approved multiple key proposals affecting the county's infrastructure and public services.
The meeting began traditionally with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance, followed by a swift approval of the consent agenda, setting the stage for further proceedings.
Highlighting the session, the Commissioners issued proclamations to St. Mary's Little League teams across various age groups and sports, including 8-10 Softball, 8-10 Baseball, Juniors Softball, Juniors Baseball, and Majors Softball. Each team was honored for qualifying for their respective state tournaments, showcasing the thriving sports culture within the county.
Following the commendations, County Administrator Time facilitated several crucial decisions. Among the approved items was the transfer of both housing and non-housing allocations of the county's portion of the 2024 Private Activity Bond authority. This transfer is pivotal in facilitating private sector investments in qualified projects, which are essential for local development.
Additionally, the Commissioners green-lighted the FY25 grant award for improvements to Chaptico Wharf, a project that promises to enhance the recreational and commercial usability of this waterfront area.
Another significant policy approved during the meeting was the trial Acting Medical Duty Officer Policy for the EMS division of the Department of Emergency Services. This policy aims to bolster the efficiency and responsiveness of medical services in emergency situations.
The session concluded with Commissioner Time, where individual commissioners shared updates and insights, further emphasizing the body's ongoing commitment to transparency and public engagement.
The next CSMC business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 9 a.m. It will be held in the CSMC Meeting Room on the first floor of the Chesapeake Building at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown.
