AKRON, OH — In a dramatic turn of events at Canal Park, the Bowie Baysox edged out the Akron RubberDucks with a 6-5 victory, bolstered by a four-run burst in the eighth inning. The Tuesday afternoon game saw the Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, come from behind to secure a win against the RubberDucks, the Cleveland Guardians' Double-A team.
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Ryan Higgins hit a two-run homer for Bowie, setting a positive tone for his team. Higgins, maintaining a strong performance streak, has now reached base in seven consecutive games. However, Akron quickly responded when Milan Tolentino homered in the bottom of the fifth, narrowing the gap.
The lead continued to see-saw as Akron's Petey Halpin and Alexfri Planez hit back-to-back solo home runs in the sixth inning, taking a temporary 3-2 lead. Despite this, Bowie's starting pitcher, Ryan Long, displayed resilience, tying his career-high with six innings pitched and recording six strikeouts.
In the pivotal eighth inning, Bowie unleashed a barrage of hits, including a game-tying homer by Jud Fabian and crucial RBIs from TT Bowens and Frederick Bencosme, pushing the Baysox ahead 6-3. Although Akron narrowed the score with a two-run homer by Yordys Valdes, Bowie's Wandisson Charles clinched the game with a flawless ninth inning, marking his first save of the season.
Bowie's offensive strength was highlighted by matching their season-high of seven extra-base hits, a record previously set against Akron on May 7. Lincoln Henzman, who pitched a perfect seventh inning for Bowie, was credited with the win.
The Baysox will continue their road series against the RubberDucks, with the next game scheduled for Wednesday evening. The team's upcoming homestand will feature several promotions, including Military Appreciation Night, Summer Camp Day, and the 25th Annual Navy Night, ensuring a festive atmosphere for fans.
