New Resource Hub Launched by St. Mary's County Sheriff

By David M. Higgins II, Publisher/Editor on July 31, 2024

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office (SMCSO) has launched a new webpage designed to centralize and simplify access to community resources for its residents. The new webpage, hosted on firstsheriff.com/community/resources, offers an array of services and links aimed at providing support across various critical needs including mental health, substance abuse, and elder care.

This initiative, led by SMCSO's Mental Health Liaison Alexis Higdon, consolidates numerous community services into a single, accessible online hub. According to Higdon, the webpage is crafted to alleviate the complexity residents face when seeking help. "Navigating community resources can be intimidating, and many people don't know where to start. Combining all the resources the County offers in one central location helps to remove that barrier and promotes a healthier, more connected St. Mary's County," she stated.

The decision to establish this comprehensive webpage stems from a recognized need to facilitate easier access to crucial services. With this digital move, the Sheriff's Office aims to enhance the visibility of available support systems and ensure that residents can find the necessary assistance promptly. The webpage features detailed sections on mental health support, substance abuse resources, elder care assistance, and more. It also provides direct links to local organizations, hotlines, and other essential support mechanisms.

The community of St. Mary's County, a locality that has faced challenges in addressing mental health and addiction issues, stands to gain significantly from the streamlined access this new resource provides. By making these resources more accessible, the Sheriff's Office hopes to foster a community environment that is more supportive and interconnected.

Residents are encouraged to visit the newly launched webpage to explore the resources available and to utilize the tools provided to seek assistance when needed. The Sheriff's Office believes that by empowering residents with better access to information, they can contribute to building a healthier community.

The initiative also highlights the ongoing commitment of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office to not only ensure the safety of its residents but also support their overall well-being by improving access to essential health and support services.
