Several upcoming blood drives in Yolo County will be provided by Vitalant to address an annual decline in blood donations that occurs during summer.
A press release from the blood services provider reminded all eligible donors that patients "can't take a break from needing lifesaving blood transfusions" and asked them to donate.
Additionally, the release noted that June 14 was World Blood Donor Day, which celebrates those committed to making sure there is always enough blood available for patients.
Here are four upcoming blood drives in Yolo County:
- 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the Davis Food Co-op located at 620 G St. in Davis.
- 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at 1110 West Capitol Ave. in West Sacramento.
- 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the Woodland Police Department Community Room located at 1000 Lincoln Ave. in Woodland.
- 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Results Transformation Center Sac located at 109 15th St. in West Sacramento.
According to America's Blood Centers, only 3% of eligible Americans donate blood each year and only 12.2% of all whole blood donations come from minority donors. Its website highlighted that if just 1% more Americans donate blood, shortages would be alleviated.
If interested in donating, visit vitalant.org to schedule an appointment. The release explained that donors should enter their zip code of Blood Drive code in the search box or schedule at another mobile blood drive or regional Vitalant donation center.
