Last week a letter was published in The Daily Democrat with the title "Equal Rights Amendment," by Lauren Ayers of Guinda. There was some misinformation in this letter as I found out when I contacted our local Congressman Mike Thompson's office.
The ERA was not ratified by the required number of states in time, which is why it has not been published by the Archivist. This requires the process to begin anew, OR the clock restarted by resolution. As mentioned, there is a resolution currently in Congress to restart the clock or introduce another amendment and start fresh. Congressman Thompson has signed on to this resolution.
Hopefully this resolution will get enough support and be passed so that the clock on the ERA can be started again.
President Biden is not at fault in this matter, and Robert Kennedy Jr. may talk about it in his campaign, but he has no authority to do anything about it. It should not be a campaign issue, but it seems that some folks are trying to make it one. Let's focus on getting the ERA passed in a timely manner and leave politics out of it.
