I figured I would wait to put this week's walleye fishing report out until after the holiday. Hopefully everyone thanked a veteran for their service and was out enjoying time on the water and with family.
This week's report is a general report covering the Big Three here in the state – the Missouri River, Lake Sakakawea and Devils Lake.. So, for the most part this is a general report from what I'm hearing and experiencing.
The Missouri River system all the way down to the state line is still producing lots of eater-sized walleyes with a big fish still mixed in from time to time. It sounds like however you want to fish them will work just fine.
Lake Sakakawea has fish being caught all over the lake. The eastern section actually has a bite occurring, which is great! The western portion is definitely a tad better, but overall, the fishing is good with a nice average size of walleye and a few really big fish also. Jigs tipped with minnows and plastics are both producing.
Devils Lake has also been good at times if conditions are right. There is still lots of gin clear water, making it difficult at times to get the fish to eat. Slip bobbers on structure have been best with some fish being caught casting cranks and also pitching jigs with paddle tails. It should just keep getting better as the water dirties up and it also warms a bit.
I don't have much for openings in June and July. I do, however, have sone dates available in August if you are looking for a guided trip on either Devils Lake or Sakakawea.
