I love these, but: processing a whole bunch of these, no matter the method, is tedious. My poor sick pear. I'm not sure if the drought and heat last year got to it, or if the fireblight and iron chlorosis is doing it in. So sad to see my twelve year old tree in decline. However, I will never plant another pomme fruit. They just aren't made for our disease pressure and growing conditions. It took a lot to keep this guy going. My indicator plant. This is a closet plant (peace lily or Spathiphyllum). This is a plant from my grandfather's funeral about thirty years ago. I inherited this plant after my grandma passed about 25 years ago. The original plant finally died. I was so sad. I left the pot outside over the winter that year. This guy sprouted that spring from seeds I didn't realize we're in the soil! Anyway, this starts to weep like this when it's dry. All I have to do is look outside, and I can tell from this plant, when I need to water my pots. This giant tree is full of figs. We had great spring weather to hydrate this tree. It pumps out fruit all summer. It's currently full of thousands of figs. Tomatoes are almost ready! I need to net this bed before the birds find them. More tomatoes! Corn is just about ready to pull. I got these in about two weeks late this spring. I've never had to harvest in this kind of heat. I'm hoping there isn't an issue with the ears. I love homegrown corn! Meet you out in the garden to enjoy the beginning of summer.
