LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary's County (CSMC) commenced their recent business meeting with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the approval of the consent agenda.
Proclamations were issued to recognize several important awareness campaigns, including National Drug Court Month, Stroke Awareness Month, Lyme Disease Awareness Month, Older Americans Month, and Historic Preservation Month.
The meeting also featured the presentation of the annual Historic Preservation Awards by the CSMC and the Department of Land Use & Growth Management. In conjunction with Historic Preservation Month, the Historic Preservation Commission announced an upcoming lecture on "Early Southern Maryland Tobacco Barns," scheduled for May 30, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room.
During the County Administrator Time, several key actions were taken:
- Future Meeting Agendas: The Commissioners reviewed the agendas for upcoming CSMC meetings.
- Higher Education Funding: Approval was granted for a letter of intent to the Maryland Higher Education Commission, seeking funds to renovate Building A on the College of Southern Maryland's Leonardtown campus.
- American Rescue Act Grant Plan: Updates to the American Rescue Act grant plan were approved.
- Financial Health Update: First Tryon Advisors provided an update on the county's financial health and the status of the Committed Fund Balance. The Commissioners approved the recommended changes to the Committed Fund Balance and the calculation of County Reserves.
The meeting concluded with Commissioner Time, where various topics were discussed by the commissioners.
The next CSMC business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 9 a.m. The meeting will start offsite with a Joint Meeting between the CSMC and the St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission at 23121 Camden Way in California, MD. Following this, the CSMC will reconvene at 11 a.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room on the first floor of the Chesapeake Building, located at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown, to continue their business.
