NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md.—In a ceremony held on April 25, two civilians were recognized with the Marine Corps Aviation Association (MCAA) John Glenn Squadron Marine Aviation Acquisition Awards for their exceptional contributions to Marine aviation throughout 2023.
During the annual event, Brigadier General Richard D. Joyce, the Assistant Deputy Commandant for Aviation and guest of honor, expressed his admiration for the achievements of the awardees. Joyce emphasized the significance of mastering one's craft and the profound impact such dedication has on Marine aviation. He encouraged the audience to appreciate the moment and expressed gratitude towards the supportive families of the awardees.

Lindsay Underwood received the J.J. McCue Civilian Tester-of-the-Year Award for her role as the government flight test director for the VH-92A Patriot Integrated Test Team, part of the Presidential Helicopters Program Office (PMA-274). Underwood led over 200 personnel, managing high-risk operational tests crucial for the presidential helicopter commissioning mission. Her leadership extended beyond her technical duties, fostering professional growth among her team through mentorship and training opportunities.
"I'm honored and grateful to be recognized by the MCAA in honor of the great Mr. J.J. McCue," Underwood remarked, acknowledging her team's professionalism and dedication.
Jason Barnidge was awarded the Thomas E. Laux Acquisition Civilian-of-the-Year for his influential work in the H-1 Light/Attack Helicopter Program Office (PMA-276). As the Capability and Combat Relevance Deputy, Barnidge played a pivotal role in major capability upgrades for the program, including the enhancement of mission computers and the launch of new capabilities essential for deployment. His commitment extended to educational endeavors, where he significantly contributed to PMA-276's Light Attack Academy by developing and instructing courses aimed at equipping junior team leads with essential acquisition tools.
"As a member of this team, I take great pride in contributing my part and adding value to our collective efforts," said Barnidge, who also mentors junior team leads involved in critical acquisition projects.
The MCAA John Glenn Squadron, based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, annually recognizes Marines and civilian personnel who make significant contributions to Marine Aviation Acquisition. These awards highlight the dedication and expertise necessary to advance the capabilities of Marine aviation, ensuring operational success and innovation.
