A couple of summers ago I was experimenting with animation. I was particularly interested in learning to animate a person, which is a sort of daunting task to undertake. However, I was determined to at least try.
I tried walk cycles first. The first one I did felt very stiff, so I tried again. My second attempt was less stiff, but it also had a bit of a bounce to it, which was unintentional. It's sort of a saunter. I thought I would try again, to see if I could get a more standard walk. The third attempt regressed back to being stiff, so I moved on and tried a forward facing walk cycle. To be honest, I don't know how I did this—I must have had a tutorial video I was working from. I don't think I could replicate this if I tried now. The main issue I see with this one is that the character is vibrating around, like their feet are not stable on the ground.
I was having a blast, so I then tried to animate a character walking across a floor, which works a bit different than a walk cycle. I tried to apply what I had learned from the walk cycles to this animation, but from what I remember I mostly just winged it. I did have a lot of fun making her hair sway as she walked.
If I remember correctly, these were all done in one day, so I didn't spend much time with each of them. I would like to do more of this type of exercise sometime in the future, but add a more personal element to it rather than drawing a plain mannequin.
