A fire broke out in a multi-story apartment building in Waldorf, Maryland, late Wednesday night, causing significant damage and resulting in one occupant being transported to the hospital.
The incident occurred at 3002 Gallery Place, T-5, Waldorf, in Charles County. The fire, which was reported at 10:57 p.m., prompted a swift response from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department. A total of 25 firefighters responded to the single-alarm fire and were able to bring the blaze under control within 10 minutes.
Clarissa Pickeral, the occupant of the affected apartment, was transported by EMS during the investigation. The extent of her injuries was not disclosed, and no other injuries or fatalities were reported.
The building was equipped with a smoke alarm and a fire alarm system, which was activated along with the sprinkler system, potentially mitigating further damage. Despite these measures, the fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor, and the initial area of origin has been identified as the bedroom. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
