The Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) Board of Education (BOE) approved the appointments of two new principals during its meeting on May 23. The appointments are for Dr. Joe Sampson as Principal of Mill Creek Middle School and Mr. Ryan Crowley as Principal of Southern Middle School.
Dr. Joe Sampson
Dr. Joe Sampson, the newly appointed Principal of Mill Creek Middle School, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Dr. Sampson currently serves as the Coordinator of Maryland Leads Grant and Blueprint for Maryland's Future. His career in education has been marked by various significant roles. In 2017, he was the Principal of Calvert Elementary School, showcasing his leadership and dedication to student development.
Dr. Sampson's journey in education began as an Art Educator, a role that allowed him to foster creativity and artistic skills among students. His progression in the field saw him taking on responsibilities as an assistant principal and eventually as a principal, demonstrating a strong commitment to educational leadership and administration.
Academically, Dr. Sampson is well-equipped with a comprehensive educational background. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from South Carolina State University, which laid the foundation for his initial teaching role. He furthered his education with a Master's degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix, and subsequently, he attained his Doctorate from the same institution. This extensive educational preparation has provided Dr. Sampson with a robust foundation in both teaching and educational leadership.
Mr. Ryan Crowley
Mr. Ryan Crowley, who will now serve as the Principal of Southern Middle School, also brings extensive experience and a strong educational background to his new position. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Crowley was the Assistant Principal at Patuxent-Appeal Campus (PAC), a role in which he demonstrated significant leadership and administrative skills.
Mr. Crowley's career in education began in 2005 as a special education teacher at Mill Creek Middle School, giving him a solid grounding in addressing diverse student needs. He later transferred to Southern Middle School, continuing his commitment to supporting students with special needs. His dedication to educational leadership is further evidenced by his roles as a Dean at PAC, an Instructional Specialist, and an IEP Facilitator in Charles County Public Schools.
Mr. Crowley's academic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master's degree from the College of Notre Dame. These qualifications, combined with his extensive experience, equip him well to lead Southern Middle School.
The CCPS Board of Education's decision to appoint Dr. Sampson and Mr. Crowley reflects a commitment to strong educational leadership within the district. Both appointees bring a wealth of experience, dedication, and a solid educational background to their respective roles.
