According to the USDA National Agricultural Statics Service (NASS), this is where cotton and peanut planting progress across the Southeast stood as of this past Sunday: In Alabama cotton planted was 75 percent, which compares to 76 percent at this time last year, while the 5-year average is 81 percent. Peanut planting was at 61 percent, which compares to 58 percent last year and the 5-year average is 72 percent. In Florida cotton planted was at 62 percent. Last year at this time it was at 69 percent while the 5-year average is 66 percent. Peanut planting was at 79 percent, which compares to 76 percent last year and the 5-year average is 84 percent. In Georgia cotton planted was at 63 percent. Last year at this time it was also at 63 percent while the 5-year average is 67 percent.
