The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, achieved a decisive 4-0 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Wednesday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York.
Bowie, now with an 18-16 record, delivered its fourth shutout of the season, deploying four pitchers to silence Binghamton's bats. Trace Bright, a right-handed starter, pitched four and one-third scoreless innings, marking his second consecutive scoreless start. Bright struck out two batters and allowed four hits. Right-hander Nick Richmond took over, recording the next four outs, though he permitted a two-out single in the sixth inning. Following Richmond, right-hander Ryan Watson took the mound. Despite allowing a double to Binghamton's Jeremiah Jackson on his first pitch, Bowie's defense executed a perfect relay to home plate, preventing a run and ending the inning. Watson (1-0) then pitched two more scoreless innings. Right-hander Keagan Gillies sealed the game with a flawless ninth inning.
Bowie's offense, which had been stifled the previous night, remained scoreless until the eighth inning. Facing Binghamton's Cameron Foster (1-1), infielder Collin Burns broke the deadlock with an opposite-field solo home run, his second of the season. This homer set the stage for a series of defensive errors by the Rumble Ponies. Designated hitter Samuel Basallo reached on a fielding error and later scored on a throwing error by Binghamton's infield. First baseman TT Bowens added an RBI groundout, and shortstop Frederick Bencosme capped the inning with an RBI single, giving Bowie a four-run cushion.
Bowie's combined pitching effort and late-inning offense ensured a comfortable win, reinforcing their strong start to the season. The Baysox continue their six-game series against the Rumble Ponies on Thursday. Bowie's right-hander Brandon Young (0-1, 3.86 ERA) will face Binghamton's right-hander Blade Tidwell (2-3, 2.59 ERA) at 6:05 pm at Mirabito Stadium.
The Baysox will return home to begin their next homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:05 pm. Tickets for the 2024 season, including ticket plans, group offers, and single game tickets, are currently available.
