Daily writing prompt
What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?
When I read this prompt yesterday, my immediate thought was, "This should be relatively easy to answer?" However, twenty-four hours later, I'm at the point of, "This is tougher than anticipated."
The problem or issue with the prompt is the word "never." It does have a level of finality attached to its meaning. "Never" seems to imply ............well - "never!" Now, having said that, isn't there that old adage of "never say never?"
If we take even a brief look at the state of the world today, there would be several places where it would be entirely fair to say, "Nope - never going there."
But, isn't that based on what might occur there today - right this very minute? But, what if we gaze twenty years into the future? Things may have changed since 2024. Now, this might be the best place to visit in the world. Could it end up this way? - perhaps. Or perhaps not.
I've often found in travels across our planet, that yes some places are pretty darn sketchy at best. But, often the ordinary folks who leave there, are much like you and me. Decent folks who may be trapped in an environment or country controlled by some of the sketchiest fu@kers on Earth.
Are there places that I have no interest in visiting? Sure there are. Some are simply unsafe and very dangerous for foreigners to visit. If the Government of Canada tells me that it is unsafe to visit such and such a country at this moment or perhaps ever, then I assume that some Canadian government likely has far more information than I do.
But, never go? Perhaps.
But, "never say never." That tends to be exceedingly final. Hope and pray for change. That would be a good thing all around. Right?
