WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team maintained their undefeated conference record with a commanding 18-3 victory over Penn College on Saturday afternoon. The win at Penn College's home field propels St. Mary's to a 10-3 overall standing and a flawless 4-0 in the United East Conference (UEC).
The Seahawks swiftly broke the early 1-1 deadlock, launching a relentless series of 14 consecutive goals to secure a dominant 15-1 lead by the end of the third quarter. Although Penn College tried to disrupt St. Mary's rhythm with two early goals in the fourth period, the Seahawks responded promptly to seal the game at 16-3 with just over six minutes left on the clock.
A standout performance from junior attackman Aiden Doyle, who hails from Arnold, Maryland, played a pivotal role in the Seahawks' success. Doyle, who attended Broadneck High School, matched his season-high with five points, contributing two goals and three assists. His efforts were complemented by a season-best three ground balls.
Other significant contributions came from sophomore Joshua Martel and junior Keegan Preis. Martel, a Linthicum, Maryland native, notched his 11th hat trick of the season with three goals, while Preis added a goal and three assists.
The team's defensive prowess was equally noteworthy, with senior defenseman Ethan Little matching his career-best by causing four turnovers. Overall, the Seahawks forced 16 turnovers from Penn College and enjoyed a substantial 45-22 advantage in shots.
Despite these challenges, Penn College's Michael Stank excelled at face-offs, winning 15 out of 24 attempts, and goalie Dax Shallis made 10 saves. However, these efforts were not enough to stem the tide against a relentless St. Mary's team.
Looking ahead, St. Mary's College faces a significant challenge as they prepare to host the top-ranked Salisbury on April 16 at JLR Stadium in St. Mary's City, Maryland. The matchup promises to be a highlight of the season, with Salisbury currently undefeated at 14-0.
