The Children's Theatre of Southern Maryland (CTSMD) is set to captivate audiences with its latest mainstage production, "Disney's High School Musical On Stage." Scheduled performances are on April 19, 20, 26, and 27 at the Chesapeake Church in Huntingtown, MD. This marks the nonprofit organization's fourth major production since its establishment in 2021, showcasing its continued dedication to providing enriching theatrical experiences in the region.
"High School Musical" narrates the tale of Troy Bolton, a star athlete, and Gabriella Montez, a studious newcomer, who discover a mutual passion for singing during a holiday karaoke event. Upon their return to school, the duo decides to audition for the school's musical, facing challenges from the envious Sharpay Evans, who schemes to derail their auditions. The story unfolds around their struggles to balance their newfound interest in the arts with their commitments to the basketball team and the academic decathlon.
This production of "High School Musical" is presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International (MTI), with all authorized performance materials supplied by MTI. Additionally, the show receives support from the Maryland State Arts Council, highlighting its significance in the local arts community.
Aly Cross directs the production, with Stacey Ober serving as producer. Both Cross and Ober have expressed their excitement about bringing this beloved Disney musical to life and are available for interviews to share insights into the production process and their experiences working with CTSMD.
Tickets for the show are priced at $20 each and can be purchased through the CTSMD website at https://ctsmd.org/what-we-do/. The performances will take place at Chesapeake Church, located at 6201 Solomons Island Rd., Huntingtown, MD 20639, offering audiences a chance to experience the magic of high school dreams, challenges, and aspirations through the medium of musical theatre.
Since its inception in early 2021, CTSMD has rapidly grown, adding "High School Musical" to its impressive repertoire of productions, including "A Christmas Story The Musical," "Disney's Beauty and the Beast," and "The Addams Family School Edition." The organization has also hosted performance camps such as "Newsies Jr." and "Once On This Island Jr.," further contributing to the development of young talents in Southern Maryland.
With this upcoming production, CTSMD continues to fulfill its mission as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, providing a platform for young performers to explore and express their creativity, fostering a love for the arts within the community. The production of "Disney's High School Musical On Stage" promises to be a highlight of the local cultural calendar, inviting audiences of all ages to relive the excitement, romance, and dynamism of high school life through song and dance.
