For over a decade, River Oak Charter School has partnered with local sponsors and artists to transform the sidewalks of Alex Thomas Plaza into a colorful art showcase on the first Saturday of May.
Pastels on the Plaza is a benefit for River Oak Charter School where businesses and other sponsors are invited to purchase a square to be transformed into a work of art by a local artist who donate their time and creativity to support this unique annual event. Proceeds from this event will off-set the costs of our extraordinary field trips that tie directly to our Waldorf-inspired curriculum. In Waldorf education, students remain with the same teacher for many years and focus on one subject area for many weeks at a time. Our goal is to create life-long learners and we schedule field trips that provide a hands-on experience that connects a student's head, heart, and hands to the school subject. Field trips are not only fun but allow students to experience the world and learn about the needs of our community. Additionally, the first Saturday in May marks the moment in the year to celebrate springtime and new growth. We invite the community to our family friendly event held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 10 a.m. at Alex Thomas Plaza.
There will be live music from 'Weird Year', 'Sweat n Groove', and DJ Larry Thompson. In addition, local volunteers and teachers will be hosting activity booths such as face painting, carnival games, handmade flower crowns, and more. This event would not be possible without our generous sponsors and artists for this event.
