The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $975 million for Monday night's draw, positioning itself as the fifth-largest in the game's history and the largest for the year. The significant prize follows a series of 38 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner, with the last win recorded on January 1, 2024, when a Michigan ticket holder claimed $842.4 million.
Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, emphasized the milestone, stating, "This is no April Fools' Day joke, we have an advertised Powerball jackpot that's closing in on $1 billion to kick off the month of April." Svitko further urged players to participate responsibly, highlighting the chance and excitement that comes with such a high jackpot. "It only takes one ticket to win," he added.
The climb to nearly $1 billion came after no participants matched all six numbers in the latest draw. The drawn numbers were white balls 12, 13, 33, 50, 52 and the red Powerball 23. Despite the absence of a jackpot winner, the draw saw over 2.3 million tickets winning cash prizes, including four $1 million prizes awarded to tickets in Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Additionally, the Powerball lottery reported 55 tickets won $50,000 each, and 11 tickets earned $150,000 each, leveraging the Power Play® multiplier of 3x. The related Double Play® feature, which allows participants in certain jurisdictions another chance to win with a separate drawing, awarded a $500,000 prize to a ticket in Michigan.
Should a winner emerge in Monday's draw, they face a choice between an annuitized prize worth $975 million or a lump sum estimated at $471.7 million, pre-tax. The annuity option spreads the prize over 29 annual payments that increase by 5 percent annually.
Powerball tickets, priced at $2, are available across 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The lottery highlights that more than half of the revenue from ticket sales benefits the jurisdictions where they were purchased. Powerball draws are broadcast from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, with live streams also available on Powerball.com.
The chance of winning any prize stands at 1 in 24.9, with the jackpot odds at 1 in 292.2 million, underscoring the rarity and allure of winning the top prize.
