In the early hours of March 22, Waldorf became the scene of a dramatic burglary and subsequent police chase when suspects rammed a vehicle through the back door of a pawn shop, leading to a high-speed pursuit that ended with a vehicle crash and the discovery of stolen firearms.
At approximately 3:39 a.m., law enforcement officials were alerted to a burglary in progress at a pawn shop located in the 2200 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf. Initial reports detailed a vehicle forcibly entering the establishment, followed by at least three suspects gaining entry into the store. Upon arrival, officers witnessed two vehicles hastily exiting the scene. A pursuit ensued as law enforcement attempted to apprehend the suspects involved.
The chase led officers down Livingston Road, where one of the vehicles, an Infiniti, became the focal point of the pursuit. Despite efforts to stop the Infiniti, the driver escalated the chase, ultimately losing control and colliding with a telephone pole, causing it to fall and ignite sparks at the intersection of Livingston Road and Route 210.
Emergency services promptly responded to the crash site, where the suspect, now with critical injuries, was extracted from the wreckage and airlifted to a hospital for urgent care.
Further investigation into the burglary revealed that several firearms were amongst the items stolen from the pawn shop, elevating the severity of the crime and prompting an intensified search for the remaining suspects and stolen goods.
