Carl Kearney, Jr.

In a harrowing incident that has shaken the community of Accokeek, Maryland, the Prince George's County Police Department announced the arrest of 43-year-old Carl Kearney, Jr., from Griffin, Georgia, for the murder of his girlfriend, 38-year-old Patrina Best. The case, marked by a shocking confession and a tragic end, has drawn attention to the quiet neighborhood where the crime took place.

On the morning of February 17, 2024, Kearney made a startling appearance at the Division V Clinton police station. At approximately 9:20 a.m., he informed the officers on duty that he had strangled Best inside her home located in the 800 block of St. James Court earlier that day. Acting on Kearney's confession, patrol officers were dispatched to Best's residence to conduct a welfare check. Upon entry, they discovered Best unresponsive, and she was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, marking a grim discovery for law enforcement and the community.

The investigation took a significant turn when Kearney, during an interrogation with detectives from the Homicide Unit, admitted to killing Best amidst an argument. This confession has led to Kearney facing charges of first and second-degree murder, among related offenses, underscoring the severity of the crime and the swift action taken by local authorities to bring the suspect to justice.

Kearney is currently being held in the custody of the Department of Corrections, awaiting further legal proceedings. The Prince George's County Police Department has taken a proactive stance in seeking additional information related to the case. They encourage anyone with insights into the incident to come forward and contact a Homicide Unit detective directly at 301-516-2512, highlighting the ongoing effort to gather more evidence and possibly shed further light on the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
