The Yolo Basin Foundation's Flyway Nights speaker series will highlight the work of graduate students going on to contribute to the scientific knowledge and management of wetlands and wildlife throughout their careers 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 via Zoom.
"Flyway Nights is a monthly speaker series highlighting environmental issues, natural history of Northern California and current research topics in conservation," the foundation's press release explained. "Yolo Basin Foundation hosts Flyway Nights December to May through virtual presentations. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link to the presentation."

A press release from the foundation noted that its graduate student fellowship fund supports graduate students working in the areas of environmental education, public use, environmental sciences or environmental/conservation policy related to the Yolo Bypass.
The program will let guests hear from the following final recipients of the 8-year program.
- Nicole Rodrigues, PhD, UCD – Effects of wildfire-derived contaminants on behavior and development of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area mosquito Culex tarsalis.
- Sara Olstad Rahimi, MS, UCD – Evaluation of Yolo Basin Foundation - Discover the Flyway School Program.
- Stephen Gergeni, MS, CSUS – Phase 2; Population and Habitat Assessment for Threatened Giant Garter Snake and the State Species of Conservation Concern Western Pond Turtle.
- Lauren Hitt, MS, UCD – Creek Origins: Assessing Putah Chinook Salmon Population Through Isotopic Analysis
