KELSEYVILLE>>> Kelseyville Unified School District (KVUSD) welcomes two provisional members to its board of trustees: Casey Carlson and Tamah McQueen. These trustees fill vacancies created last year when one board member became a KVUSD employee (and thus, ineligible to serve on the board), and another resigned from the board for personal reasons. These newly appointed board members will serve until newly elected trustees are chosen during the November 2024 election. (In November 2024, two positions will be listed on the ballot: one for a full four-year term and another for the remaining two years of an existing four-year term.)

KVUSD Superintendent Dr. Nicki Thomas is pleased that the board chose trustees who are familiar with the district and have "an unselfish interest in public schools, the community, and in every child."

Carlson served as a school counselor at Kelseyville High School for seven years from 2016 - 2023, and McQueen worked in education for 23 years, the last five of which were at the Kelseyville Unified School District Office supporting student enrollment, among other responsibilities.

Casey Carlson

Carlson said, "I am humbled and honored to have been selected for this position and to have the opportunity to continue to contribute to the next generation of Kelseyville students. Unexpected life circumstances prompted my resignation after the 2022-23 school year. It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever been faced with. When the opportunity arose to apply for a seat on the KVUSD School Board, it felt like a natural way to stay involved and continue serving the community.

Kelseyville is such an integral part of who I am; I was born and raised here, completed Kindergarten through 12th grade in Kelseyville schools, and returned home after going away for college. I earned a Master's degree in Education and School Counseling and currently work as adjunct faculty for Mendocino College as a general counselor and instructor."

Tamah McQueen

McQueen, who is married to KVUSD's recently retired superintendent, Dave McQueen, said, "I am very excited to serve the students of our schools. My passionate desire is for every student in this district to have a positive and engaging experience.

I have been involved in local schools for a very long time. I was born and raised in Lake County (where my dad and grandfather owned Ray and Dave's Custom Cutting in Finley). I attended Kelseyville schools starting at Kindergarten and graduating from Kelseyville High School, Class of 1982. Since then, my three children have also attended Kelseyville schools.

A lot has changed over the years–technology, career and college opportunities, and so much more. Some aspects are easier, and some are more difficult. I am excited to be an advocate to help students achieve their goals, whether they be to learn a trade, take over the family business, go off to college or join a branch of the military.

Grades TK-12 lay the foundation for every student to build a successful educational experience. Every student needs to be encouraged and guided to take ownership of their education, especially at the middle and high school level, so that when they enter adulthood, they are equipped to go into the next chapter of their lives with confidence, understanding and a desire to meet their full potential in life."

KVUSD Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the KVUSD Dr. Peter J. Quartarolo Board Room, located at 4410 Konocti Road in Kelseyville or in the Tom Aiken Student Center at Kelseyville High School, located at 5480 Main Street in Kelseyville (as indicated on the agenda).
