There is a line in a Christmas Day church service scene from a Christmas movie(Lynn's favourite) that states, "Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year." Hard to argue that sentiment in many respects.
Certainly from the religious or Christian perspective, that celebration of the birth of Christ makes this a pretty wonderful time for sure. I get that sentence comes off as a bit of an understatement, but I'm not meaning it to be.
In addition, there are also a wide variety of other paths on this "wonderful time of the year - thing" we could venture along - maybe they're not as important as the birth of Christ, but the reality is they do exist.
And not acknowledging them doesn't make them go away and hide anytime soon.
The over-commercialization of the season. Need I explain further? - likely not.
This can also be the "darkest time of the year" for many. In as many people love and jump in with both feet within the delights of the season, there are scores of others who find the Christmas and holiday season a difficult one to navigate through.
This is also a time of year the feeling of being "lost within a crowd" gets amplified for many.
And I think that's where the thoughts in the graphic ring true.
The message of Christmas is that "we are never alone." Whether we embrace the message of the gospel or not....we are never alone. We are not isolated islands within a sea of humanity. I get that there are those who feel that; perhaps even live that. There are many who would emphatically state, that folks who feel isolated and alone - need to reach out for help; connection.
Often easier said than done...many times impossible for people to even think about.
So, what about the rest of us?
To quote Dickens "it is a time, of all others when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices" for us to reach out to others. To reach out; to ensure that all are not alone. It doesn't have to be a stranger on the street(it could be though); nor does it have to be the widow who lives next door(it might be).
It might very well be a sister, brother, family member, or friend who feels they are simply an isolated island bobbing about that no one truly cares about.
Change that this year. Make sure that know that they ARE NOT ALONE.
There are many messages that are found during the Christmas and holiday seasons.
