Mabrika! It's usually an early start without any alarm over here for me and I give thanks for that. It helps make a gentle greeting of each gifted day. Today's vlog post shares the first of the process mixing shea butter blends for personal use as well as natural products to add to the outdoor shop. This starts in the garden and after adding different combinations of flowers, herbs, leaves, spices, nuts, seeds and oils the mix is set in the sun to melt and infuse before it's time to bring it inside to cover, cool and rest until bottling.
This is a relaxing part of the day spent in the garden barefoot on the grass with birdsongs and bumblebees on repeat, sun streaming down on skin and breeze reminding me to breathe. Inhaling the essence of whatever herb, leaf or flower is being picked and added to the blend at the time is natural aromatherapy that always brings deep thankful breaths and a smile or two. All that love and gratitude makes its way into the process of making something that will eventually nourish both me and others.
Some of the things added to butter blends from the garden are lemongrass, paw paw, hibiscus or moringa flowers and leaves, wonder of the world/leaf of life, sweet basil, Jamaican thyme/Cuban oregano, mango or soursop leaf and more to come.
I use mostly natural products in my hair and on my skin and have never bought a bottle of perfume in life. That's why using things organically grown right here in the garden is important to be able to vouch for the integrity of the products as well as the preparation and packaging process. After all the questions that come up in everyday conversations about having healthy natural hair inspired this step to make more batches to share with others since it can be overwhelming for some when they think of finding time and ingredients to make their own and keeping up the rhythm of it. These butter blends are made in small batches and available in Barbados only for now. Sharing the vlog with the steps can hopefully inspire you to make your own blends if you want to wherever you are so you can care for your skin and hair with as many natural ingredients as possible. Our scalp and skin drink too and they feed the body so what we apply to them links to our overall health at some point.
