Being a Christian woman, I have many people in my life who are, well, also Christian. My faith is very important to me, and it has held me together through grief, loss, and illness. I can't imagine not knowing or having Jesus in my life.
Recently, I've noticed a trend in the US. It's a fundamentalist, or what I see as a radical Christian movement.
See, as a Christian, one must try to ensure they tend the souls of those they are connected too. My husband and I raised our children in faith. We live good lives, and are an example of how a good, faithful person should live. I don't press my beliefs on others. I respect another's beliefs. That's how I think a Christian should live. Set an example and don't judge.
The trend I see is people who are pushing their extreme beliefs on others. And, these beliefs are becoming part of our political system. This frightens me.
There is more than one religion in our country. For 100s of years, we have lived and let live. Why now does that have to change? Why is one religion more correct than another?
What baffles me is this. Jesus, who I love, and need, and try my darndest to obey, gave me free will. He gave all of us free will. He didn't want us born tethered to him and the Father. He wanted us to come to him of our own free will. He wanted us to find him. To feel him in our hearts and in our lives, and go to him.
The trend I see now in our country is disturbing. Rights are being taken away from people. In some states, women are being forced to carry babies that were forced upon them. Or, that baby will be born and die. To what end? Why must a woman be forced to suffer?
There are laws being enacted allowing discrimination of the LGBTQ community. School curriculum is being changed. Books are being banned. Why is this happening? These populations are using Jesus as the reason. The Bible. Apparently, it's all in there.
This is where I am confused. Jesus never forced people to do anything in his name. People willingly flocked to him when he came to town. People followed him of their own free will. The apostles served him because they saw his greatness. He never enacted a law telling anyone they had to obey his rules. So, why is the government using Christianity as a weapon to control people? Jesus never did that. Why should they?
