We will now go to the next section. I see that if a non-Christian saw a Christian doing these things, they would not come to Christ.
Galatians 5:20 (1)
20 idolatry,
I can see that we all can say that we don't practice this. But is this true?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, Idolatry is:
- Worship of idols.
- Blind or excessive devotion to something.
- The worship of idols or images; more generally, the paying of divine honors to any created object; the ascription of divine power to natural agencies.
In the Bible, we saw that they made images to worship. We don't see much of that today, so why is this so important? The simple explanation to that is are we putting anything ahead of God. A few examples:
TV
Cell Phones/Tablets
Children
Yes, even children can become our idols. Having known a gal who put her children way above God I saw how that could be. We should all know about the cell phones. There aren't many today who do not have a phone on them at all times. I admit I do, but it is with me in case I need to call 911. It is a tool. I am not on that. But my tablet is another story. I seem to be on there way too long. Is it my idol? Something to ponder on. I am still a work in progress.
TV starts out as a great tool from years back to keep the children occupied while we did something else. But let me ask you this question: how is your relationship with your children? Do you really know what they are watching? As I was growing up, we were outdoors practically all day. The only time inside was for meals, sleeping, practicing piano, and when it got dark. But even when it got dark we were catching fireflies. These are great memories with a family. But as time went on, TV became the entertainment instead of kids making their own entertainment. And now with even young kids having phones, their face is on that all the time. They are playing games or whatever on there. Have we really seen what they do on there?
All of this makes me wonder what our world is really coming to. As my Dad used to say: Even so, come Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)
Self Examination
Today take time to check to see if you have put anything above God. He should always be first in your life. Family/spouse should be after that. Also check if "gadgets" have gone ahead of God. If anything has, now is the time to repent and loose yourself from that which has gone ahead of God and spend more time with Him.
