Winters' 2023 Festival de la Comunidad — "Community Festival" — will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Winters Community Center located at 201 Railroad Ave.

"Please join us for a day of food, fun and culture," the event's website stated. "Free kids activities, local vendors, live entertainment, evening dancing and our annual Carnitas Cook-off."

The free cultural celebration will also feature a $17 dinner that gives attendees access to samples of "some of the best carnitas around," rice, beans, tortillas and salsa.

"Your dinner ticket also allows you to vote for the best carnitas," the website added. "Dinners are served starting at 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. You must be in line for your presale dinner plate no later than 5:30 p.m."

The Yolo Land Trust's annual farm-to-fork fundraiser, "A Day in the Country," will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 at Timothy Ranch located at 37687 County Road 18 in Woodland.

The sold-out event will welcome 300 guests for "an intimate gathering to taste Yolo County's bounty on a picturesque Yolo County farm."

"A Day in the Country returns to a family ranch that hosted the event once before in 2005," the event's website stated. "Timothy Ranch is the home of Kim and Trish Timothy, situated just northwest of Woodland on the south side of Cache Creek. This serene property is a beautiful setting for an afternoon enjoying delicious food and drink under the large shady trees.

The event will feature small plates from top Northern California chefs and drinks poured by local Yolo County wineries and breweries.

"It is a true celebration of the world-class food grown on Yolo County farms and the recognition of agriculture's significant role in Yolo County's economy and quality of life,"

The Yolo Growers & Farmworkers Festival will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 in downtown Woodland.

"Enjoy an evening downtown, dance to live music, visit our great shops, grab a bite to eat and say thank you to our local growers and farmworkers," the event's website stated.

The festival was held in June last year welcoming over 3,000 community members who were encouraged to also enjoy shopping downtown stores.

"Attendees filled Main Street throughout the evening dancing to live music, enjoying Woodland's shopping and dining experience, admiring dancing horses and trick ropers and interacting with local organizations," the website added.

Woodland Mayor Victoria Fernandez and Brown Issues representatives visited two Yolo County farms earlier this week to distribute free burritos and provide information about the festival to farmworkers.

"This was our way of showing up and letting them know that we really want to engage you," Kimberly Gudino, statewide coordinator for Brown Issues, emphasized. "Covering the cost of their lunch meals for different farm working sites was very important for us to be able to speak directly to the farmworkers."

Gudino explained that the festival will feature a resource section with 25 organizations that provide "an array of resources to farmworkers within the area" and a kid zone "so farmworkers who do have kids don't feel that they have to find a babysitter."

Woodland's Movies on Main Street will return to downtown Woodland Friday, Oct. 13 with a viewing of Disney Pixar's "Lightyear."

"This free family-friendly event is loaded with fun for everyone," a city press release stated. "The event kicks off in Heritage Plaza at 5:30 p.m. with activities including bounce houses, the Rec2Go kids zone and crafts to keep kids busy until show time."

The movie will begin shortly after sundown and attendees will be able to enjoy the movie on a 30-foot movie screen under the stars, according to the release.

"A prequel to the 'Toy Story' series, 'Lightyear' follows legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear as he embarks on an intergalactic adventure," the release explained. "Don't forget to bring a low-back chair, blanket or pillow to sit on the street."

The release encouraged people to arrive early to find the best spot to watch the movie and to visit one of the many downtown restaurants, boutiques and retail options before the film starts.

Snacks and drinks including popcorn and candy will also be available for purchase in Heritage Plaza.

If interested in becoming a vendor, contact Woodland Community Services at (530)661-2000 or email WoodlandCSD@cityofwoodland.org for more information.
