Sorry to the fans of the band "Dire Straits", this post isn't an expose' or in-depth review into the meaning of the lyrics found in their 1985 song "Walk of Life" from the album "Brothers In Arms."
Not sure though, a dive into the lyrics and such might make a great post. Who knows?
What I am going on about is our journey of life if you want to call it that, or more specifically a "Journey of Self-Discovery."
First of all, I'm not absolutely convinced the phrases here "journey of life" and "journey of self-discovery" are necessarily the same thing. They may be intrinsically joined at the hip, but be two diverse ideas or concepts respectively.
We all go experience a "journey of life" - from birth to death. Yes, an oversimplified basic view of defining us for sure. On the other hand, isn't a "journey of self-discovery" a very specific set of actions or processes we undertake to undergo to discover or figure out "who we are?"
All of this is falling out of a post I read this morning on my "Reader" feed, which had another post attached to the bottom of it entitled "A Journey of Self-Discovery." The writer(and this part is an educated guess) left me with the impression they were just out of college or a year or two removed from school and embarking on a career in the health sciences field.
This isn't about the person of their post, but about the phrase "A Journey of Self-Discovery."
Let me say, I'm not trying or attempting to define what "a journey of self-discovery" is; the purpose or need to undergo one; the process(if there is one); the elements of it; or what does it look like at the end(assuming there is an end).
My questions might be and for this post are simply is "a journey of self-discovery" simply an organic process that just happens and we somehow figure out who we are and our purpose in life?
Or is "a journey of self-discovery" a decision we undertake at some point in our life to undergo some methodical process to explore one's inner self to gain insight into our true identity, purpose, and potential to ultimately bring about greater self-awareness, authenticity, and fulfillment in life?
Would love to hear your thoughts and experience of this whole "journey of self-discovery" process.
Does it happen?; Is it necessary?; How does it happen?; What happens at the end?; Is there an end to this "discovery process?"
--as always with love--
--- get outdoors; find inspiration; discover yourself ---
